A Kulturális Örökség Napjai alkalmából 2025. szeptember 20-án kiállítás nyílik a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia fennállásának 200. évfordulójához csatlakozva. A kiállítás három olyan kiemelkedő tudósegyéniségnek, Toldy Ferencnek, Szilágyi Sándornak és Eötvös Lorándnak a dokumentumait és életpályáját mutatja be, akik az Egyetem, az Egyetemi Könyvtár és az Akadémia történetében is fontos szerepet játszottak.

„Tudományos az iskola, tudományos a tanítás ott, de csakis ott, a hol tudósok tanítanak” – mondta Eötvös Loránd 1891-ben rektori székfoglaló beszédében. Eötvös ekkor már két éve töltötte be a Magyar Tudományos Akadémia elnöki posztját is, egyszerre képviselve a két intézmény közös küldetését: a tudomány művelését és átadását. Az idén jubileumát ünneplő Magyar Tudományos Akadémia történetében számos olyan tudóssal, kutatóval találkozhatunk, akik az egyetemen is maradandót alkottak. A számtalan jeles és kiemelkedő személyiség közül Toldy Ferenc és Szilágyi Sándor az Egyetemi Könyvtár igazgatója is volt, Eötvös Loránd pedig egyetemünk névadója lett. Kiállításunk röviden, válogatott dokumentumokon keresztül mutatja be az akadémiához és az egyetemhez fűződő viszonyukat, valamint tudományos pályafutásukat.

On the occasion of Cultural Heritage Days, an exhibition will open on September 20, 2025, marking the 200th anniversary of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. The exhibition presents the documents and careers of three outstanding scholars, Ferenc Toldy, Sándor Szilágyi, and Loránd Eötvös, who played an important role in the history of the University, the University Library, and the Academy.

„The school is scientific, the teaching is scientific, but only there, where scientists teach”, said Loránd Eötvös in his inaugural speech as rector in 1891. At that time, Eötvös had already been president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences for two years, representing the common mission of both institutions: the cultivation and transmission of science. In the history of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, which is celebrating its jubileum this year, we encounter numerous scientists and researchers who have made a lasting contribution to the university. Among the countless distinguished and outstanding personalities, Ferenc Toldy and Sándor Szilágyi were also directors of the University Library, while Loránd Eötvös became the namesake of our university. Our exhibition briefly presents their relationship with the academy and the university, as well as their scientific careers, through a selection of documents.
